Equifax Data Breach

As you may remember, in September of 2017, Equifax announced that there had been a data breach which exposed the personal information of 147 million people.  Under a settlement, the company has agreed to spend up to $425 million to help those affected by the data breach.

How do you know if you were one of the people affected?  The Federal Trade Commission announced that there is a tool available so you can find out if your personal information was exposed, and learn about benefits, including free credit reporting, and possible cash.  If you were a victim of the breach, you can receive up to 10 years of free credit monitoring, providing you with alerts when someone opens a new credit card or loan in your name, for example. There are also potential cash benefits for the time or funds you had to spend due to the effects of the data breach on you.
